Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum
Unexplored Ethnic Indian Country
Museum Collections
Leona Mitchell Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum serves as a repository, exhibition and educational center. Therefore, collections reflect the unique origins and ancestry of its founders and community members. Our goal is to highlight Tribal Affiliations, including Exposure to Items and Articles of Cultural Patrimony particular to the Indigenous Pre-Settlement Inhabitants of Oklahoma.
Primarily, our chosen collections are presented in a way that provides the most educational data possible to members, supporters and the general public regarding Native Americans having African ancestry, including information about their economic, social-political history and dynamic micro-ethnic culture and autonomy among the Tribes.
Due to the good fortune that our facility has in serving as a Heritage Center, it allows the Leona Mitchell Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum to present this expansive historical perspective through Displays, Pictorials, Artifact Exhibits and Memorabilia that extends from the earliest documented evidence through to modern Forensic Archaeology findings. Lectures, Symposiums, Performances, Entertainment, Education Connections, Arts, Crafts and Design, Exhibitions and Special Collections augment Museum Collections. We are privileged to present the story of the Ethnic Native Americans, Black Indians and Freedmen from Pre-history to the Present day.
Leona Mitchell Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum, although small is organized to plan, implement, administer, operate, and evaluate programs that carry out the objectives of our purposes.
